“People only seriously consider change when they feel accepted for exactly who they are.”
-Carl Rogers on Humanistic Therapy
Therapy for Adults and Teens
The decision to start therapy can be a scary one. Maybe you’ve done therapy before and had a bad experience. Maybe you LOVED your therapist and are unable to continue working together. Maybe you’ve never done therapy and the whole concept is intimidating and off-putting. Wherever you’re at, I’m here for it!
While I take an eclectic approach to sessions, everything I do is rooted in Humanistic Therapy. That means my whole job is make sure you feel safe, accepted, and valued in our sessions. The idea behind Humanistic Therapy is that when a person learns to truly accept themselves, and observe themselves without judgement, they become more capable of growth and change. We may sprinkle a little Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy or some good old-fashioned psychoanalysis into our sessions here and there, but it should never feel forced or judgmental. We’ll move at your pace and I will never push you to talk about things before you’re ready. This form of therapy is supposed to feel gentle and loving, not cold and distant. Humanistic Therapy tends to be helpful for anxiety, depression, issues around self-esteem and confidence, as well as general coping abilities for everyday life.
I won’t always have all of the answers, but I’ll be right there with you for the adventure of being a human in the world!
