“Birds fly, fish swim, and children play.” -Garry Landreth, Play Therapy: The Art of the Relationship
What to Expect
Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) is a non-directive intervention in which the therapeutic relationship is of utmost importance. Children are met with unconditional positive regard from their therapist, with a focus on cultivating a safe environment in which children feel free to express themselves fully.
In other words, we use play to allow space for kids to work through issues they may be struggling with. This makes CCPT different from some other therapeutic modalities that are more talk-focused. CCPT is client-led, meaning the child directs the session while the therapist provides reflections and observations that allow for introspection, creating opportunities for change. I take an eclectic approach that includes other intervention styles, including mindfulness, expressive arts techniques, cognitive-behavioral techniques, and trauma-informed care. Please feel free to ask me more about this!
After a brief phone conversation, I will send out your intake paperwork. I will then meet for a 75-minute intake with the parent(s)/guardian(s), in which we will go over the intake forms, as well as discuss primary concerns and share any background information it would be helpful to know. This is also an opportunity for us to decide if we will be a good fit to work together, address any questions you may have, and figure out scheduling.
See below for information on session options and fees
